We're in the summer quiet period for the Club where we take a break from our Events to plan for the future. We're delighted we've hired our first employee, a Marketing Apprentice, to help us communicate properly about we do and get us in front of more people who might like to join the Club or come to an Event.
She's got off to a great start and helping her understand more about the Club has been helpful to clarify my thinking about what we're doing and why. Yesterday, she asked me what my favourite parts of the Club are, and it's very easy to answer - I love seeing someone have their breath taken away when looking at a watch for the first time.

I'm privileged to have many different opportunities to introduce people to new watches, whether an interesting new design from a Microbrand at our shows, or a piece of High Horology in a Geneva boutique, we cover them all. This is a goal that underlies much of our event planning, our Shows, and our Experiences in Switzerland and beyond.
Sometimes people find a watch that just speaks to them more than any other. Whether it's the fine finishing, the balance of the design, the heritage of the brand, or the way the light catches the dial, they have an immediate and emotional response. They'll often stop hearing anything else around them as they move the watch back and forth in their hands, hold it against their wrist or try it on and move it around. They'll come out of their reverie and want to see if I've seen what they've seen. They're excited to show it to everyone else and see if they agree. It's wonderful to share that experience.
We held an Event with Breguet in London and a Club Member came along who'd collected Rolexes and Seikos for over 20 years. He knew of Breguet and their reputation but had never had the chance to see them up close. when he finally did he was totally dumbstruck. It was a sunny Saturday afternoon and he was astonished at the finishing of the Gold, the case design, and the elegant dials.

We held a show in Glasgow earlier this year and I was passing by the Farer stand when a young chap arrived to look at their range. He was almost shaking with excitement as it was the first time he'd been able to see the watches up close, and he'd been following the brand for about 18 months. He was absolutely delighted and sure enough, quickly made a decision about which one to take home with him.

Our second goal, and the main reason we arranged this as a Members Club from the start, was to help people make friends. Many watch enthusiasts don't know anyone else who is interested, not their partner, their family, their friends or their work colleagues. When they're excited about a new watch or a new launch or a new model, no one they know cares. We've created a place where people do care, and want to share their thoughts with others and hear what they think about a watch or brand.
As well as our Members catching up at our regular Meetups and boutique visits, they're regularly arranging dinners together after events, meeting at watch boutiques, and even planning trips to Switzerland together. It's such fun to hear about them and see your community grow.

I'm writing this in Scotland following an excellent event with Longines in their boutique in Glasgow City Centre and we're working hard to hold more events in Scotland and the North-West of England before the end of the year. We'll soon begin our packed Autumn calendar in London and expect at least two watch Experiences overseas this autumn (to Geneva in September and Glashutte in November).
We hope to see you soon at one of our Events. We've got a very special Watch Photography Experience planned, and we'll be visiting Breitling, Jaeger LeCoultre and more. Maybe this will be your chance to see a watch that takes your breath away.
